Humblebeads Challenge!

Art Bead Scene is hosting a challenge based on Heather Power's book, Jewelry Designs by Nature.
Leave a comment on the Art Bead Scene Blog to say that you are interested in participating in the challenge.  You must have a blog in order to participate. Heather is randomly picking 10 participants on June 6th. A fascinating challenge in three categories involving her Humblebeads.

Heather Powers' book, Jewelry Designs by Nature, will be available at Hobby Lobby and Michaels!

Rustic Polymer Rings

I used the scrap clay from the faux bone necklace and brooch to make a couple of rings.   I have been wearing the one on the right and am surprised at how comfortable it is.  It is turning out to be one of my favorite pieces.

Peyote Slider #2

A peyote tube on a cable or slide a magnet inside for a brooch.  I made Peyote Slider #1 (click HERE) and Peyote Slider #2 (above) a while ago and could not decide what to do with them until now.  Very versatile.

Bead Crochet Book

I'm learning a little more each time I make one of these Shutterfly books.  It is a creative endeavor that is a whole lot of fun.  I'm working on Volume I of my old bead crochet pieces and am trying a different layout with several pieces on one page as opposed to the larger pics as shown above.  I received two more coupons for free Shutterfly books from BestBuy after we purchased some camera and TV products.  It's proving to be a good project to do while the foot is up.

Beaded Ankle Bracelet

The beaded ankle bracelet is a fun explosion of beads; a fun, over-the-top statement piece.  I envision it with a gorgeous wrap over a stunning swimsuit and a hat where all you can see are your sunglasses and your turquoise beaded earrings peeking out.  Might as well add some white sand, the ocean breeze and a Margarita to that picture.  Mmmmm, I'm relaxed just thinking about it.

Good news on the broken foot--don't need surgery. Yay!  Some plaster tape and a boot for another month and a brace after that and I should be able to bead shop for another 20 years. LOL.

Polymer Turquoise Pin

Gluing the Swarovski crystal in the eye area really made all the difference in my polymer clay faux Turquoise Horse pin.  I used a super magnet instead of a pinback so it can be worn on silk or suede without damage to the material.

I find out later today if I need surgery on my ankle.  Hope not.  We've got lots of plans for the summer that start the first week of June with a trip to the Bead and Button Show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  So, I am crossing my fingers.

Polymer Jade

I'm still not sure what I want to do with this polymer jade piece.  Maybe a pin, but probably a pendant.  I embedded some faux pearls to look like they were bubbling out.  It will go back in the work in progress tray.

Polymer-Black Horn

Lately, I have been fascinated with black horn jewelry so I decided to try my hand at duplicating it in polymer.  I'm happy with these buttons and will now try a larger piece for the necklace.  Tomorrow I'm posting a little jade piece while I work on the faux black horn.

Polymer-Big, Bold and Blue

I got a fast food salad at the mall a few weeks ago and I looked at the bottom of that pretty plastic bowl and knew it was meant for polymer clay.  I used a "super" magnet in the brooch. I purchase them at the hardware store and use them in all my pins.  Big Bold Blue isn't heavy so the magnet holds it in position.  It reminds me of the blue skies of summer.

Polymer Leaves

This embellished peyote "ring" was originally a slider on a beaded necklace, but I have been wearing it as a ring.  A nice big, bold, beautiful, beaded ring with large polymer clay leaves.  Hope you are all having a big, bold beautiful weekend!

Big, Bold Polymer Bangle

You know how you have a picture in your head of what you want to create and then you create it and it's nothing like the picture you had in your head?  Aluminum foil armature, polymer that I textured inside and out and cured.  The colors didn't come out quite as I wanted.  Oh well, it was fun anyway.

Bead Crochet Neck Piece

I started this new bead crochet using the same beads from the Judith Bertogloo-Giffin's Native Stripes String-Along.  It is a little less than half-way done.  I love making the joined ropes, but, one of these days I would like to do a bead crochet design that is really "out there".  It's funny how an idea ruminates and exciting to see where it will lead.

Bead Crochet Necklace

Body and container are hand painted gourds.  Head is PaperClay, arms are polymer clay, bandanna is air dry polymer clay and the hair is fiber cording.  Her neck piece consists of beads sewn to a disk of air dry polymer clay.  I created her in 2011.  (click HERE)

I have also been bead crocheting while I'm recuperating. Finished one and have started another Native Stripes necklace which is half way done.  I'll post it tomorrow.

Polymer & Paper Clip Necklace

Polymer clay pressed into the round paper clip and cured in the oven.  Quick and fun.
Above are the round paper clips I purchased at Office Max.  Below-after you make a loop and twist it sideways, press the polymer clay into it and bake.
I've been laid up with a left sprained ankle since Saturday, April 28 when I missed a step and fell.  Saw the orthopedic surgeon who recommended a semi-cast with a boot and in a wheel chair for two weeks to see if I can avoid surgery. The wheel chair is also to help my right knee heal from the fall.  I can create with polymer, but the hubby has to load and unload it from the oven located in the garage because I'm in the wheel chair.  He hasn't complained once. How sweet is that?

Polymer Clay Brooch

I used the old coin counter (click HERE) again to make this brooch.  I like the intersecting design and will, at some point in the future, play around with developing it further.
